At NIHAO CAC, we pride ourselves on not being your typical preschool, language school, or after school program. That’s why we are constantly taking things a step further, including our approach to going beyond educational basics and standard curriculums to creating a spark that helps children want to learn more and discover things on their own. We call this approach "Foundation Motivation." While most schools focus on laying down foundational knowledge—like language basics, cultural customs, or essential life skills—our teachers find personalized ways to motivate each student to turn those foundational lessons into something meaningful and memorable.

So, what exactly does that look like?

Let’s say your child is learning about the art of a traditional tea ceremony. With a foundational approach, we would teach the steps: how to pour tea, the phrases exchanged during the ceremony, and the significance of sharing tea in Chinese culture. But our teachers go beyond the basics by tuning into each student’s unique interests and finding the best ways to foster their natural curiosity. If a child seems excited about sharing, for example, we might encourage them to host a mini tea ceremony at home with a sibling or friend, where they can practice the phrases and share what they’ve learned in a meaningful way. By connecting lessons to what excites each child, we help them not only grasp new concepts but also develop a genuine motivation to explore and deepen their understanding.

This combination is powerful because it nurtures not only a love of learning but also the confidence to apply new skills in real-life settings. Our teachers observe each child closely to understand their unique interests and preferred ways of learning, then tailor their approach to encourage each child’s curiosity. Whether your child is drawn to movement, art, storytelling, or hands-on activities, we’re here to support them on their individual learning journey.

By connecting lessons to each child’s interests, we’re helping them discover how fun and meaningful learning can be—and how it doesn’t have to stay in the classroom. From language and culture to social skills, the Foundation and Motivation approach ensures that students leave each class ready and excited to explore and share what they’ve learned with the world around them. So, if you’re looking for a program that brings out your child’s natural curiosity and helps them develop a lifelong love of learning, NIHAO CAC is the perfect place to start!
